Unlocking Mobile Phones Is Legal Again

It has been in the works for some time, but a Bill that allows unlocking mobile phones has finally passed the Congress and Senate, and recently received the President’s signature.

This means that people will no longer have to worry about a ridiculous possibility of prison time for unlocking their phones from their carrier. Somehow back in 2012 this law actually made it in or should I say “snuck” through.

While there is work in progress to make this permanent, until that happens the bill will need to be reviewed every 3 years. Chances are slim that it will ever get reversed. Let’s just hope the lobbying power of cell service providers will not carry more influence than that of the voters.

So, you want a phone? Is your carrier not carrying it, but you do not want to switch or violate your terms or take a chance to spend time in prison for what is probably at the top of the list of the most ridiculous reasons to spend time in prison for? EZPZ, get it from the carrier that has it, unlock it, insert the SIM card from your carrier and enjoy.
